Creative Costume Contest Winners

by Julie Whitehorn on November 5, 2009

We had quite a scene on Halloween. The hungry hordes, many of them in costume, lined up for pulled pork sandwiches, kimchee fried rice, panang curry, apple slices smothered in caramel, Muse coffee, and other good eats. The Blair Street Mugwumps pulled out all the stops, setting mummies and ghouls whirling in the street. In the Market Event Tent, three pinatas were quickly dispatched by bat-swinging superheroes and princesses, the candy flying perilously close to a table-full of pumpkin pies.

Our costume contest commenced with a parade through the market, led by poet and costume judge Evan Peterson. Contestants paid $10 to enter, with all proceeds going to our nonprofit market association. The top prize, a $100 gift certificate donated by How to Cook a Wolf (thank you, Ethan Stowell!) went to Angela Flower and her friends, dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. (Angela, who works at Nancy’s Sewing Basket, put amazing details into her Tweedledee. Stop in the shop and ask her about it.).

The other finalists received $20 gift cards from our generous Queen Anne neighbor, Metropolitan Market. Thanks to everyone for participating in a successful fundraiser. Let’s do it again next year!
